Johor hotels seeing more bookings, sports and health tourism on the rise

JOHOR BARU: The tourism sector in Johor is seen to be recovering, with many hotels recording booking rates of up to 70% especially on weekends.

Tourism Johor director Suhairi Hashim (pic) said this followed the reopening of the country’s borders on April 1, attracting more foreign tourists to the state, including for sports and health tourism.

"There has been an increase in tourist arrivals, especially from Indonesia and Singapore for health tourism.

"In terms of sports, last month alone many Singaporeans came to play golf in Johor,” he told a press conference after the UUMISM-SportExcel Junior Golf Tour here on Sunday (May 29).

SportExcel executive director C. Sivanandan was also present.

Suhairi said besides Singapore, tourists from South Korea also travelled to the state to play golf.

"We have seen a significant increase in golf tourism, and for July alone, about 300 visitors from South Korea will come here specifically to play golf.

"They will be staying around Iskandar Puteri and Johor Baru. All golf clubs are also fully booked including by domestic tourists,” he said. – Bernama
