Cannabis farm in Janda Baik: Cops seek to extend remand of ex-envoy's son


KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is in the midst of completing the investigation in connection with the arrests of a former diplomat and his son along with the seizure of 102 cannabis plants in Janda Baik, Pahang.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the department aimed to complete the investigation paper as soon as possible.

"Once the investigation paper is completed, we will refer it to the Attorney General's Chambers for further action.

"The 78-year-old former diplomat was released on police bail on Saturday (May 28) upon the expiry of his remand.

"His son's remand is expiring on Monday (May 30) and we will apply for an extension,'' he told reporters in Bukit Aman on Sunday (May 29).

On May 21, the former diplomat was arrested following a raid at his home in Janda Baik. Police seized 102 cannabis trees, which were planted over a 0.8ha area.

Follow-up operations led police to the arrest of the 53-year-old son in Shah Alam on May 23.

Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf had said each of the cannabis trees, priced at RM600, were seized from the house and its compound in Janda Baik.

Inside the house, police seized 1,020g of dried cannabis leaves along with two 60ml bottles of cannabis oil.

Comm Ramli was also reported as saying that the case was considered the largest seizure of cannabis trees in the country.
