PETALING JAYA: The number of cheaper chickens for sale in June has been increased from 10,000 to 20,000 a day, says Izham Hashim.
The Selangor agriculture modernisation and agro-based industry committee chairman said the increase of 10,000 chickens compared to the initial plan was due to the high demand in Selangor.

“The need for chickens is 15 million birds a month, but the production of chickens in the state is only half of that, which is 7.5 million of them.
“In fact, the production amount is not all sold in Selangor, so it is not enough. We have to bring in extra to cover the shortage,” he told a Malay portal after launching the Selangor Agro Tour at Central I-City on Friday (May 27).
Izham said 10,000 additional chickens would be imported from Thailand.
“Our price will be reduced by RM1. If the ceiling price per kg is RM8.90 with a weight of 1.8kg is RM16, then we will sell at RM15,”he said.
On May 24, Izham said the state government would continue the cheap chicken sales program implemented from December last year until Syawal as a short-term solution to the shortage of supply.
The programme was held until the Aidiladha festival with a lower selling price than the market price and hoped to help consumers deal with the issue.
