M'sians under 30 stand chance to experience German Parliament

PETALING JAYA: Young Malaysians under the age of 30 will again stand a chance to experience the German Parliament.

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kuala Lumpur urged Malaysians to apply for this year's International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS) at the German Parliament (Bundestag), which is now open for applications.

Each year, it said, the German Parliament, in cooperation with three Berlin universities - Freie Universitat Berlin, Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin and Technische Universitat Berlin - offers around 120 scholarships to young university graduates from 50 countries.

The embassy noted that the programme provides participants with the opportunity to experience first-hand how the Bundestag works over the course of five months, with a three-month placement in the office of an MP.

It said the placement at the MP’s office will allow participants to accompany their MP to meetings of committees, parliamentary groups and other bodies, and gain an insight into Parliament’s internal functions, systems and procedures.

Participants of the programme would also receive an introduction to local academic life from the three Berlin universities, along with an insight into the parliamentary work from the Bundestag administration.

The programme aims to promote relations between Germany and the participating countries, consolidate democratic values and tolerance, deepen understanding of cultural diversity and secure peaceful coexistence in the world.

The scholarship includes a monthly allowance of €500, free accommodation, insurance and covers the cost of travel to and from Berlin.

IPS is open to well-qualified and highly motivated young people who are open to new ideas, interested in politics, and those who wish to play an active and responsible role in shaping the democratic future of their country.

The programme would begin on March 1, 2023, till July 31, 2023.

Requirements:

• Malaysian citizens under 30 years old at the start of the scholarship (born after March 1, 1993);

• Possess a university degree; and

• Possess very good knowledge of the German language (minimum Level B2)

Applications must be submitted by July 31 to info@kual.diplo.de.
