East coast traffic jam to be resolved once ECRL is completed in 2026, says Dr Wee

JOHOR BARU: The traffic congestion on the east coast, especially during the festive season, is expected to be resolved once the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) is completed in 2026, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka (pic).

The Transport Minister said that the project would make it easier for people to travel back to their hometowns come festive seasons in the future.

"For those returning to the east coast, they would have to bear with the heavy congestion at the moment.

"We hope that the congestion problem will be solved with the construction of the ECRL, which is expected to be completed in 2026.

"It will only take four hours for them to travel from Kelantan to Gombak and vice-versa," he said.

The MCA president said this to the press when meeting during Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi's open house at the Mentri Besar's official residence here in Saujana on Tuesday (May 3).

Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Iskandar and Johor Permaisuri Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah were among the guest of honour.

Dr Wee added that the traffic situation on all main roads nationwide has been smooth and under control so far, despite heavy congestion in certain areas.

"For now, no major accidents have been reported and we hope the public will continue to be careful on the road," he said.

Also present at the open house here were state health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon, state investment, trade and consumer affairs committee chairman Lee Ting Han, Pekan Nanas assemblyman Tan Eng Meng, Bekok assemblyman Tan Chong, as well as other state MCA leaders.
