KUALA LUMPUR: Senior PAS MP Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali has resigned from the party in a shocking move.
The former Plantation Industries and Commodity minister dropped the bombshell to newsmen in Parliament House shortly after tendering his resignation letter to PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyiddin Hassan at about 2.30pm at the venue yesterday.
“I met the party secretary-general to hand in my letter of resignation in line with Article 15 (1) of the party’s constitution,” he said.
The Kuala Nerus MP said he would now sit as an Independent MP in the Dewan Rakyat and would not take his monthly MP allowance.“I will send all the remaining MP monthly allowances to PAS to fulfil the bai’ah (oath of allegiance) I gave to the party,” he said.
Mohd Khairuddin had been facing a fallout with PAS since Jan 12 when he was dropped from the PAS central committee for the 2021-2023 session.
He had failed to defend his seat in the committee during the party elections in November but had been reappointed.
In February, Mohd Khairuddin was also sacked as the party’s Syura Ulama Council secretary.
His sacking, according to party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, was due to a “disciplinary issue”.
Asked the reason for his resignation, Mohd Khairuddin merely said it was hard for him to answer the question.
Mohd Khairuddin had also been dropped as a Cabinet minister in a minor reshuffle in August last year.
He has been critical of the PAS leadership and the party’s cooperation with the Perikatan Nasional coalition and its clashes with Umno and Barisan Nasional during the recent Johor state polls.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Mohd Khairuddin accused PAS of “throwing mature political policy into the South China Sea”.
