PETALING JAYA: Some three million school students will benefit from the early school aid initiative which will be rolled out from Monday. Each eligible student, from households with an income of RM3,000 and below, would receive RM150, the Education Ministry said.

This was a RM50 increase for the upcoming 2022/2023 school term, from the previous RM100, it added.

“The aid will involve pupils who will be entering Year Two in the 2022/2023 school year, up till Form Five students.

“The aid will be distributed to pupils who will be entering Year One in the new academic year, which starts on March 21, after their school registration process is completed.

“Those in Year One until Form Four in the current 2021/2022 academic year who are from households with an income of RM3,000 and less will be eligible to receive the aid,” the ministry said in a statement yesterday.

The aid will be distributed in cash or will be banked into the recipient’s bank account, the ministry said, adding that cash handouts would be done in schools based on the National Security Council’s and Health Ministry’s standard operating procedure.
