PETALING JAYA: The downpour on Monday evening (Dec 27) has caused flash floods in Kajang.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) has advised residents in low-lying areas to take precautions and follow the instructions of authorities.
In a statement, it said the water level at Sg Langat in Kajang town and in Taman West Country in Hulu Langat district had reached dangerous levels.
Videos being shared on WhatsApp and Twitter showed several parts along Jalan Semenyih with water levels rising due to the heavy rain, with many areas around the main route that seems to be above ankle level.
One video showed water spilling out of the Langat river.
Many took to Twitter warning road users not to travel on Jalan Semenyih.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said the flood situation around Jalan Semenyih is under control.
It said the flood situation is believed to be caused by blocked water drainage, adding that the water levels in the affected areas have subsided.
Rapid KL posted on Facebook that due to the floods, its buses would arrive late to the MRT Stadium Kajang hub.
"The routes affected are T458, T459 and T460. We apologise for any inconvenience," it said.
