KUALA LUMPUR: Violence against women is a health issue as those abused are more likely to engage in high-risk behaviour, such as smoking and substance abuse, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Furthermore, he said, the stress caused by violence is linked to higher rates of chronic diseases (such as heart disease and diabetes), mental health disorders and infections suffered by the abused women.
