Three injured in factory explosion


SEGAMAT: Two firemen were injured in an explosion while putting out a factory fire here.

Bandar Baru Segamat fire station operation commander Mazuki Ismail said they received a call about a fire at a factory here at about 5am on Saturday.

“A total of 22 firemen from the Bandar Baru Segamat and Labis fire stations were deployed to the scene. While putting out the fire, an explosion occurred on level three of the factory that led to the partial collapse of the structure.

“Two firemen and one factory worker were injured due to the incident.

“All three have been sent to Hospital Segamat for treatment,” he said in a statement.

The two injured firemen are Syed Putra Syed Mohd Al Atas, 52, and Mohd Firdaus Sulaiman, 32, while the injured factory worker was identified as Mohamad Azura Mahrani, 40.

Two of the victims are still warded for observation while one has been allowed to return home after receiving outpatient treatment.
