A TRANSGENDER from Kerala, India, has won the Ms Trans Global Universe 2021, becoming the first South Asian to win the contest, Makkal Osai reported.

Sruthy Sithara, 25, who works as a project assistant at Kerala state government’s transgender department also won the Most Eloquent Queen at the pageant which was held online.

Sruthy said despite being bullied at school and college, she was able to persevere, thanks to her family who loved and supported her, including her late mother, father, brother and sister-in-law.

Many in her home state congratulated her for the win including Kerala Higher Education Minister Dr R. Bindu who tweeted his well-wishes.

Sruthy’s win was a “matter of immense pride for Kerala’’ following her struggle against “prejudice and narrow mindset of our society”, said the minister in his post.

> The daily also reported that SJK (T) Ladang Lanchang’s preparation to host a national level school chess championship received a boost in the form of a RM3,000 contribution from Lanchang assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin.

The school, which has less than 100 pupils, will host the competition on Dec 11 and 12 under primary and secondary school categories.
