MCA to step up cooperation with Barisan after good Melaka polls turnout

IPOH: MCA should continue its close working relationship with other Barisan Nasional component parties for the 15th General Election (GE15) following the party’s success in winning two state seats in Melaka, says the party’s deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.

He said MCA has a chance of winning more seats in GE15 after its good turnout in the Melaka polls.

“Despite the challenges faced during the 14th general election, MCA is confident that the people are placing their trust in Barisan,” he said.

“It was not only MCA that faced defeat in the last general election, but other component parties as well.

“But thanks to persistent effort, we have risen again,” he told reporters after launching the Perak MCA convention here yesterday.

Dr Mah said all the component parties of Barisan, including MCA, are determined to play a stronger role to help the people.

On the automatic voter registration of those aged between 18 and 21, Dr Mah said it is important for MCA to disseminate the correct information to these groups.

He noted that since it would be the first time those in this age category would be voting, it is vital for them to have the right information.

Dr Mah added that the party machinery is already on the ground on this aspect.

In George Town, Penang MCA chief Datuk Tan Teik Cheng expressed hope that the Chinese community would understand the folly of voting for DAP.

He added that the Melaka election results showed how the Chinese community in the state had decided against putting all its eggs in one basket.

“I believe this will evolve into a new political climate in Melaka,” he said at the Penang MCA annual convention yesterday, which was held online.

Tan said Penang MCA has formulated a plan based on the views of the people in Penang on how to improve development and progress in the state.

He also said state constituency coordinators would be appointed among party members to carry out preparations for the next general election.
