PETALING JAYA: High quality fashion products by Malaysian designers are up for grabs over the next month.
A campaign has been launched to encourage shoppers to buy these Malaysian-made fashion apparel, some of which are on par with international brands.
Some 30 designers, such as Bon Zainal Harun, Batek by Rasta Rashid, Carro, Three Little Ahmads, Huda Hassan, and Masterpiece by Masrina Abdullah, will be participating in the month-long campaign which will run until Nov 19.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the initiative, backed by the Malaysian Bumiputra Designer Association (MBDA), was aimed at uniting the local fashion industry and brands in an effort to boost their image and sales locally as well as on the global market.
“This shows that MBDA is always active in planning and executing different initiatives to support the government’s plan to revive the domestic economy, taking into account different industry sectors such as fashion,” he said in his video address yesterday.
Dubbed ‘My Gaya Month’, the campaign is aimed at raising awareness among members of the public on the high quality of Malaysian products and services that are as competitive as their international counterparts.
MBDA founder Bon Zainal said that its main hope was to get more people to support local designers and businesses.
“We have gone all over the world to promote our local products.
“I am proud to say that our products are on par with other international brands,” he said.
He hoped that Malaysians would support local players especially during this challenging time.
He also noted that consumer sentiments had changed and that most of them preferred to purchase items online.
“We, as designers and sellers, understand that consumer behaviour has changed and we need to create something that people will love and buy,” he said.
MBDA president Rasta Rashid said that in terms of sales forecast, they were targeting to achieve RM250,000 during the campaign month, especially through the sales on e-commerce platforms.
The items will also be sold on various e-commerce platforms such as Fashion Hub by MBDA, Shopee, Lazada, Aladdin1 and Zalora.
