KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, are on a special visit to the United Kingdom. The King and Queen’s visit began yesterday and will officially end on Sept 27, after which Their Majesties will stay in London until the third week of October.
Wisma Putra said Their Majesties would be visiting the Battersea Power Station, Malaysia’s iconic project in London which is a joint venture between Sime Darby Property, SP Setia Berhad, the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB).
Their Majesties, it said, had also consented to visit the Malaysian High Commission in London on Sept 24 for a meeting with Malaysians, including entrepreneurs, academicians, students and community leaders.
“On Sept 25, Their Majesties are scheduled to visit the Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre (TARRC) which is owned by the Malaysian Rubber Board and is one of the world’s leading rubber research and development institutions,” said Wisma Putra.
The King, it added, would also be receiving a courtesy call by Chief of Defence Staff General Nicholas Carter, during which the issue of defence cooperation between Malaysia and the United Kingdom would be touched on.
Meanwhile, Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, who is Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong, will be performing the functions of the King during this time.
In a statement, Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said this was in accordance with Article 33 (1) of the Federal Constitution.
The King, he added, was also scheduled to attend a reunion dinner at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst where His Majesty studied between 1978 and 1979.
“Their Majesties are scheduled to return home on Oct 23. On their return, Their Majesties will undergo quarantine for seven days as advised by the Health Ministry,” he said.
