Warisan to back Anwar for PM if he delivers the numbers

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah is ready to back PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the prime minister’s post if he can get a simple majority.

If Anwar and Pakatan Harapan cannot get the numbers, Pakatan Harapan must then be prepared to back Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal for the position.

In a tweet, Warisan’s youth chief Datuk Azis Jamman challenged Anwar to show that he could garner the support of at least 111 Members of Parliament.

Azis tweeted: “Warisan will support DSAI for PM if DSAI can get past the magic number, and hope PH will give right of first refusal to Shafie if DSAI can’t get past the magic number.”

Warisan party sources said they were weary of shouldering the blame of not backing Anwar.

“So far, Anwar can only get the support of 105 MPs. That figure has always remained. Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin fell because his Umno partners withdrew support,” they said.A Warisan official said it was unfair for Pakatan to say it was not getting the support from Warisan.

“Where are the formidable number of MPs promised by Anwar? It is only fair if Anwar and Pakatan give the prime minister’s position to Shafie if they can’t get the numbers,” he said.
