RM13,000 worth of contraband cigs seized in raid on Slim River house


IPOH: Police have arrested a 37-year-old trader and seized 297 cartons of contraband cigarettes during a raid on his house in Kampung Kuala Slim in Slim River.

Muallim OCPD Supt Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said police launched the operation following an investigation at about 5.30pm on Thursday (Aug 5).

Supt Sulizmie said the cigarettes, consisting of various brands, are believed to be worth about RM13,000.

"The man is said to have been involved in selling contraband cigarettes for over a year.

"He keeps the stocks in his house," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 6).

Supt Sulizmie said the man would be remanded until Sunday (Aug 8) to facilitate investigations under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act.

"He has no prior record. We are investigating to determine how he smuggled in the cigarettes and where they came from," he added.
