Their deaths on July 8, 2003, at the age of 29 shattered all corners of the world that had rooted for them.

Iranian conjoined twins Ladan and Laleh Bijani wanted so much to lead a normal life, so they went through a pioneering 50-hour operation by a team of specialists in Singapore.

It was a first attempt to separate adult twins born joined at the head. They died of massive blood loss at the operating table.
