Armed man runs amok, again, over money for drugs in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A man ran amok while brandishing a machete after his grandmother refused to give him money at Kampung Kerukan in Kuala Penyu, off Beaufort district, say the police.

It was not the first time that this had happened with the man.

The 43-year-old, who is believed to have reacted that way after his demands were not met, was nabbed at about 1pm on Monday (Aug 2), following a police report lodged by his grandmother, 71.

Beaufort OCPD Deputy Supt Yusoff Zaki Mat Yaacob said the man was allegedly in a murderous rage during the incident that happened at 8am on Monday.

“His terrified grandmother then lodged a police report against him,” he said, adding that the suspect later tested positive for drugs.

DSP Yusoff Zaki said the police found that the suspect, who lives with his grandmother, had previously run amok because of the same reason.

"He destroyed part of the house as he went,” he said.

The suspect will be investigated for criminal intimidation.

It is learnt that the suspect had wanted money to buy drugs.
