Umno MPs must withdraw support for Muhyiddin, urges Puad Zarkashi

PETALING JAYA: Umno MPs must express their withdrawal of support for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in writing, says Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi (pic).

The Umno supreme council member said all lawmakers from his party must write a letter to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, or else be branded as “treasonous” against the King.

He said this must be done as it was uncertain whether the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister submitted by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will indeed be tabled on Monday (Aug 2).

“The Umno president has ordered party MPs to express their stance, which is to withdraw support for the Prime Minister.

“It is thus urged that all Umno MPs write a letter to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, stating their stance that they no longer support the Prime Minister.

“If they fail to do so, the Umno MPs will be labelled as those who are treasonous against the Yang-di Pertuan Agong. This will damage Umno’s image as a party that defends the institution of the monarchy.

“There is no reason for them to go against the party’s decision made in the Supreme Council Meeting on July 7, 2021,” said Puad Zarkashi in a Facebook post on Friday (July 30).

On Thursday (July 29), a statement by the Istana Negara said the King had expressed great disappointment with the government's decision to revoke six Emergency Ordinances without his consent.

The King also expressed dismay that the revocation of the Ordinances was not presented in Parliament by the government.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Thursday had issued a statement that 40 out 42 Barisan Nasional MPs unanimously expressed their support for Muhyiddin following a meeting between him and the lawmakers late Thursday.

So far only Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has changed his seating in the Dewan Rakyat from the government's side of the aisle to the Independent bloc of the House.
