Cops urge Internet users to stop sharing pictures, videos of senior who died outside Penampang coffee shop

KOTA KINABALU: A man died after collapsing outside a coffee shop at the Plaza 333 area in Penampang on Wednesday (July 28) morning.

Penampang OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim said the 67-year-old was walking when he fell at about 10.50am.

“Passers-by contacted the police and the man was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officials who arrived not long after the emergency call,” he said.

He said the cause of death was not yet known.

The deceased man’s son, who was coincidentally in the area when his father collapsed, told police that the latter had a history of heart problems.

“The man has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for Covid-19 screening and a post-mortem,” DSP Haris said.

He urged those who were in the area at the time of the incident to stop circulating pictures and videos of the victim as a sign of respect for the family.
