Hisham takes over role of providing daily updates on SOP compliance and enforcement

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has taken over the duty of giving daily updates on standard operating procedure compliance and enforcement action to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The Senior Minister (Security), pledged to carry out the responsibility to the best of his ability.

Hishammuddin took over the role from Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is now the Deputy Prime Minister.

"I will be receiving reports on SOP compliances, border control enforcement activities and on other matters from each agency involved. The information is important so that the people can be given an explanation on the current security situation during the implementation of the National Recovery Plan," he said on Tuesday (July 27).

Hishammuddin expressed his appreciation to Ismail Sabri for his role in keeping the country informed since the start of the pandemic in March last year.

At the onset of the pandemic – aside from the Prime Minister – Ismail Sabri and health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah were the spokespersons for the government on non-health and health related matters pertaining to Covid-19 respectively.

On July 26, Ismail Sabri issued his last daily statement on the matter after having done so for one year, four months and six days," he said.

On July 17, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the appointment of Ismal Sabri as his deputy and Hishammuddin as Senior Minister leading the security cluster.
