Covid-19: Sarawak records 289 new cases, three deaths


KUCHING: Sarawak reported 289 new Covid-19 cases and three deaths on Wednesday (July 7), says the state disaster management committee.

This takes the state's cumulative tally to 67,560 with a death toll of 424.

Kuching had the most cases with 64, followed by Sibu (37) and Saratok (24), while 22 other districts recorded between one and 22 cases each.

In a statement, the committee said there was one imported case involving an individual returning from Papua New Guinea and three cases involving individuals returning from other parts of Malaysia.

The latest fatalities were two women aged 60 and 82 years, and a 52-year-old man. All three died at Sibu Hospital.

The committee also said two new clusters were identified in the state.

It said the Jalan Tasik Biru By-Pass cluster involved workers at the construction site of a food court at the Jalan Tasik Biru By-Pass in Bau.

The cluster currently has 19 confirmed cases, including 13 foreigners, out of 26 individuals screened.

In Kuching, the Sungai Bedil Besar cluster was detected among several families at Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar.

Out of 94 individuals screened, 31 tested positive in the cluster.
