BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 26-year-old masseuse has been arrested for allegedly posting a sensitive remark about the morning Azan call to prayer on Facebook.

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Shafee Samad said after four police reports were lodged against the woman, she was arrested at 11.30am on Tuesday (June 29).

The suspect had allegedly mocked the Azan or Muslim call to prayer in her Facebook posts made at 5.18am on Monday (June 28).

"One complainant was upset over the post and perceived it as irrational and might incite racial tension among Muslims in the country.

"Initial checks on the suspect, from Tawau, Sabah, revealed that she is single with no criminal record.

"Two mobile phones have been seized from her," said ACP Shafee in a statement Tuesday, adding that the case was classified under Section 298A of the Penal Code for attempts to cause disharmony, disunity or feelings of enmity on grounds of religions.

The case is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 for sharing of offensive and menacing content online.
