Cops arrest three after scuffle breaks out when car stopped for inspection

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained three people after a scuffle broke out when a car was stopped for inspection along Jalan Merdeka on Monday (June 21).

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the incident began when a police team on a crime prevention patrol there stopped the vehicle when it ran a red light.

“Whilst issuing a summons, the suspect raised his voice and started questioning the police. Two relatives of the first suspect arrived a few minutes later and they started shouting at the complainant, while questioning the reason for stopping their brother's car," he said.

ACP Mohamad Farouk said that the personnel at the scene then instructed all three men to go to the police station as the situation was getting volatile.

"One of the policemen on duty there was then held and pushed to the ground. Following that, all three suspects aged 28 to 42 were arrested and they have been remanded until June 25," he said.
