KOTA KINABALU: A 55-year-old man who was relaxing in the kitchen of his house has been killed after a landslip at Kg Pinousuk in Kundasang, about 80km from here.

Junaidi Gangka, a foreign labourer who worked on a farm in the area, was pronounced dead at the Ranau Hospital.

His wife and two children, aged six and 18, escaped the rock-fall that destroyed the kitchen of their house at around 3pm on Sunday (June 20).

Ranau district police chief Deputy Supt Simiun Lomoudin said on Monday (June 21) that neighbours helped pull Junaidi out from under the rocks and rushed him to the hospital.

After visiting the area, DSP Simiun said police have advised residents and farmers to be vigilant.

He said this was especially important given the current rainy weather.

Landslips in the Ranau and Kundasang areas, which are part of the Crocker Range and home of Mount Kinabalu, are a common occurrence during wet weather.
