KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Bersatu wants police to act against state PKR youth chief Raymond Ahuar for allegedly claiming that a mother tried to sell her children due to financial constraints.
Sabah Bersatu Armada vice-chairman Rafie Robert said that it was clear after the police’s clarification on the case, it was a drug-related matter.
He said Ahuar was manipulating the rescue of children from their drug addict parents to gain political mileage.
He said police rescued the three children in Keningau district on May 22.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali had dismissed Ahuar’s claims, saying there was no case of sale of children.
He said it was a drug-related arrest with the children having been handed over to the Welfare Department.
Ahuar claimed that the couple’s eldest child was rescued by police at the Sabah-Kalimantan border where the mother was purportedly waiting for the “buyer”.
“The police have confirmed that it had nothing to do with human trafficking. The PKR leader is not telling the truth and just making unsubstantiated allegations, ” Rafie added in a statement yesterday.
Keningau police also revealed that the husband had been charged for a drug offence.
After the arrests, police said the mother and three children were handed over to the Welfare Department, adding that a fourth child, aged seven, was also handed over to the department the next day.
On June 11, however, police detained the woman after she tested positive for methamphetamine.
