GEORGE TOWN: Residents at the Rifle Range Flats in Ayer Itam, Penang, underwent swab tests after Covid-19 cases were detected there.
Northeast district health director Datin Dr Azizah Ab Manan said residents staying at blocks designated as high risk were chosen through risk assessment to undergo Covid-19 swab tests on Wednesday (June 16) morning.
"The residents who underwent swab tests will be quarantined until results come back, or for a longer period if necessary.
"We urge residents to be patient and wait for their results," she said.
Meanwhile, Kebun Bunga assemblyman Jason Ong said sanitisation works were carried out at all public areas at nine blocks of the flats last week.
"We have requested that a vaccination centre (PPV) be set up here to vaccinate local residents.
The Health Ministry has allocated 350 slots, which will start soon.
"We are requesting for more should circumstances permit while testing is carried out continuously.
"As of 11.30am on Wednesday, about 90 residents have undergone swab tests," he said.
Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai said Health Department officers conducted swab tests for about 100 residents from Block G.
"The results will be out in a few days.
"In the meantime, those who had done their swab tests will have to put on a pink wristband and be quarantined," he said.
