Maqis seizes 28,000kg of buffalo meat from India in Pasir Gudang

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) has seized some 28,000kg of buffalo meat from India at the Pasir Gudang Port here.

Johor Maqis director Hizzuan Hasim said the goods were detained during a routine check at the port at around 5.40pm on Tuesday (June 15).

“The department enforcement officers inspected a container importing boneless buffalo meat worth RM293,842.

“Further investigations revealed that the seal number on the container contradicts the bill of lading declared to Maqis," he said in a statement here on Wednesday (June 16).

He added that the items were seized and the case was being investigated under Section 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728) for declaring false, inaccurate or misleading documents.

The offence is punishable with a fine of not more than RM50,000, or a jail term of not more than two years, or both for the first offence.
