PETALING JAYA: There is no meeting of Umno ministers with party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Tuesday (June 15), according to the ministers and Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said it was fake news that a meeting would be held on Tuesday.
“It is not true, ” he said when asked if there was such a meeting.
Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa also said “No such meeting” in a short text message.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba also pointed out that no physical meetings of political parties can take place during the current lockdown.
“I have not been notified of any meeting, physical or virtual, with my president, ” said Dr Adham.
“No such meetings (between Umno ministers and the president), ” Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan also said.
Meanwhile, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan, when contacted, also said that he had not heard of any such meeting.
A report by a portal went viral earlier on Tuesday stating that the Umno ministers will be holding a special meeting with Ahmad Zahid to convince the latter to support the extension of the state of Emergency announced to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.
Last Friday (June 11), Ahmad Zahid said he had informed the King during an audience that Umno, as a party, was not keen on an extension of the state of Emergency.
As Umno is also part of the Perikatan Nasional government which proposed the state of Emergency, this has been a much-debated issue among Umno leaders since then.
