Seremban cops detain couple over baby-dumping case

SEREMBAN: Police have arrested a couple, believed to be lovers, to assist in a probe into a baby-dumping case near here, says Asst Comm Mohd Said Ibrahim.

The Seremban OCPD said the 26-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were detained at a house in Garden Avenue in Seremban 2 at around 7.30pm Monday (June 14).

“We will obtain a court order today to remand them, ” he said Tuesday (June 15).

The case, he said, was being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for mistreatment, neglect, abandonment and exposing a minor to harm.

Offenders can be fined up to RM50, 000, jailed up to 20 years or both upon conviction.

Members of the public found the baby girl in a box at a bus stop near SMK Sri Sendayan and called in the police around noon Monday (June 14).

The baby, believed to be two days old, was healthy. She was then sent to the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital for a medical check-up.
