PETALING JAYA: Selangor will be ramping up its daily vaccination rate to 135,000 per day in July and up to 165,000 per day in August, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
"This means Selangor will be able to vaccinate 80% of its adult population by September," the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister said in a tweet on Tuesday (June 15).
Last week, Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had expressed his surprise that Selangor only received 615,210 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, which is highly disproportionate to the state's population of 6.5 million.
"His Highness would also like to remind that Selangor is the nation's biggest gross domestic product contributor and hence should be given due priority," the Ruler said in a statement on June 8.
Sultan Sharafuddin also decreed that, under the current circumstances, lives must be given priority as opposed to other agendas.
"His Highness also hopes the Special Committee On Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) will expedite vaccination and increase the number of vaccines for the people of Selangor," said the statement.
The Ruler also wanted the number of vaccination centres in Selangor to be increased, especially in rural areas.
Selangor has recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the country.
