Umno's Tajuddin right to call for a stop to politicking and focus on fighting pandemic, says PAS

PETALING JAYA: Umno is right in saying no to politicking and the push for elections during this "grave emergency", says PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said In a statement on Monday (June 14) that Umno election director Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman was correct in telling Umno not to push for elections in the near future.

"PAS is of the view that his statement is timely and on point. The whole Federal Government and state machineries are now focused on fighting the pandemic.

"Political parties too are concentrating on helping the people affected by the pandemic.

"PAS calls upon all, especially political parties and NGOs from all beliefs and streams of thought, to assist the government to manage and end this pandemic which is now a grave emergency," said Takiyuddin.

He said issues which can cause tension, raise ugliness, and waste time, energy or money, should be avoided.

"PAS is sure the government will take proactive steps by considering all views and suggestions to ensure they benefit all Malaysians," said Takiyuddin.

On Sunday (June 13), Tajuddin, who is also the Pasir Salak MP, urged party members to help the government's efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19.

"As the Umno election director, I believe we all need to be committed to continue helping to make a success of the national agenda and free the people from this pandemic.

"The Umno election machinery at state and parliament (levels) which is ready for GE15 now should be mobilised to help the government contain Covid-19," he said in a statement.

Tajuddin, who is an Umno supreme council member, said instead of politicking all the time, all parties should focus on the issue of security and the people's wellbeing which had become more critical in the wake of high numbers of Covid-19 cases.

He said the 3.5 million Umno members throughout the country could be mobilised to help the government flatten the Covid-19 curve and enable the people to return to normalcy in their daily lives.
