Technician remanded over alleged RM100,000 bribe to cop

SHAH ALAM: A 36-year-old technician has been remanded for seven days pending investigations after he allegedly attempted to give a police officer a RM100,000 bribe.

The man allegedly tried to give the bribe to an Assistant Superintendent of Police as an inducement to release a colleague who had been detained by the police for drug possession under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The application for a remand order made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was granted by Magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali at the Shah Alam Magistrates Court here on Tuesday (May 25).

Prior to this, the technician was arrested by MACC officers at a petrol station in Bandar Seri Damansara at about 9.30pm Monday (May 24) night, while he was trying to hand the bribe over to the police officer.

The case is being investigated under Section 17 (b) of the MACC Act 2009, and Selangor MACC chief Datuk Alias Salim confirmed the arrest when contacted.
