Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for pregnant and nursing mums

PETALING JAYA: Expectant and nursing mothers will only receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, says the Health Ministry.

“Pfizer-BioNTech is currently the only vaccine suitable for breastfeeding mothers and those who are between 14 and 33 weeks pregnant, ” it said.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba noted that pregnant women must declare their status to consulting medical officers during their appointment at the vaccine dispensing centre (PPV).

“If an expectant woman has an appointment when their pregnancy is less than 14 weeks or over 33 weeks, they must contact the PPV to change their appointment date.

“For now, breastfeeding mothers will also be given the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

“Usually for public PPVs, Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be in stock, especially for those not suitable for other types of vaccine, ” he said.

For further information, pregnant and lactating women could contact the relevant PPV after receiving their appointment date to confirm if the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is available for them.
