Man tries to poison girl, five, after spat with wife

KOTA KINABALU: A five-year-old girl was allegedly fed with poison and abused after her parents had an argument in their house in Kg Bundu, Kuala Penyu.

The girl was said to have been given a cup of coffee which was mixed with weedkiller by her 43-year-old father

The man was believed to have become enraged after his wife wanted to take the victim and her sister back to Keningau.

The man also tried to strangle the girl during the incident on Sunday before leaving the house shortly after.

Beaufort OCPD Deputy Supt Yusoff Zaki Mat Yaacob said the victim’s eight-year-old sister told their mother about what their father did after he left.

“She then took her daughter to hospital for a medical check-up.

“Fortunately, the amount of poison was very little and did not cause much harm to the girl.

“A manhunt has been mounted for the suspect, ” he said, adding that the case would be investigated under the Child Act.
