PETALING JAYA: The government has decided to impose a two-week enhanced movement control order in 15 localities in Besut, Terengganu, as well as other states due to a sudden surge of cases, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
In his daily updates on Thursday (May 20), Ismail Sabri said the Health Ministry found that nine of the 17 clusters in Terengganu were from Besut with a high infectivity rate in the community.
He also said that the enhanced MCO on the 15 localities in Besut will begin on May 22 (Saturday) to June 4.
“The Health Ministry reported that there was a sudden increase of cases in 15 areas in the Besut district.
“It involved Kampung Raja, Keluang, Lubuk Kawah, Bukit Kenak, Pelagat, Jabi, Tembila, Kerandang, Bukit Puteri, Pengkalan Nangka, Kuala Besut, Pasir Akar, Kubang Bemban, Tenang and Hulu Besut.
“The Health Ministry confirmed that nine of the active 17 clusters in Terengganu in Besut have contributed to the increase of cases in the state with a high communal infectivity rate, ” said Ismail Sabri.
He also said the enhanced MCO from May 22 to June 4 will be imposed on localities in Perak, Kelantan, Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak.
Ismail said that in Perak, four localities were found to also have a 119.3% increase in cases during the last two weeks.
“There has been a sudden increase of cases in Hulu Perak district (Mukim Pengkalan Hulu), Larut, Matang and Selama districts (Mukim Taiping), Kinta district (Mukim Hulu Kinta covering Ipoh, Lahat, Chemor and Tanjong Rambutan), and Muallim district (Mukim Hulu Bernam Timur).
“The Health Ministry confirmed there has been a 119.3% (2,035 cases) increase of cases in the whole of Perak within the 14-day period from May 5 and May 18, compared to 928 cases between April 12 and May 4. The increase of cases involved the four areas in Perak, ” said Ismail.
In Kelantan, there has been many cases reported in Kampung Terusan, Mukim Limbat, Pasir Tumboh, Kota Baru and Kepulauan Tumpat, Mukim Sungai Pinang, Tumpat,
In Pahang, the surge was at Rumah Banjir Kuala Teh, Jerantut.
In Sabah, the enhanced MCO is imposed on Kampung Idani (Semporna), Kampung Pisang (Tawau), Kampung Getah, Kampung Getah Tengah and Taman Kunak Jaya (Kunak).
In Sarawak, a two-week enhanced MCO will be imposed at Kampung Boyan (Kuching).
Ismail Sabri also said the National Security Council has agreed to extend the enhanced MCO in Raub district on seven localities in Sempalit and 16 localities in Sungai Ruan as the infectivity rate is still confirmed to be high.
“The enhanced MCO on SM Ugama (SMU) Pantai Manis, Papar, Sabah, to end on May 20 will be extended to June 3.
“As of tomorrow (May 21), the enhanced MCO will end on Sekolah Sukan Tunku Mahkota Ismail (SSTMI), Bandar Penawar, Kota Tinggi, Johor, ” said Ismail Sabri.
He said that as of May 19,495 individuals were arrested for various MCO SOP violations.
The main violation was for not recording details when entering premises.
Sanitation of premises in various zones as well as patrolling of the borders by the authorities continue, as usual, he said.
