KOTA KINABALU: Police are hunting for a man who allegedly fed his daughter poison and physically assaulted her after a fight with his wife in Kg Bundu, Kuala Penyu, recently.
Beaufort OCPD Deputy Supt Yusoff Zaki Mat Yaacob said in the incident on Sunday (May 16), the 43-year-old became angry when his wife said she wanted to return to the Keningau district with their children.
He said the man then made coffee for his five-year-old daughter and laced it with weedkiller, then tried to strangle the girl when she went to her room.
“The wife only learned about it when their eldest daughter, who is eight, told her what happened,” he said on Wednesday (May 19).
DSP Yusoff Zaki said the wife then brought her daughter to the hospital for a checkup and the girl was found to be unhurt owing to the small amount of weedkiller used.
“A manhunt has been mounted for the suspect,” he said.
The case is being investigated under the Children’s Act 2001.
