Sweeper finds body of newborn baby girl at Taman Sri Rampai

KUALA LUMPUR: A foreign worker who worked as a sweeper stumbled upon the body of a newborn baby.

Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the incident occurred at around 8.30am on Monday (May 17).

"The man was busy working along Jalan Sri Rejang 3, Taman Sri Rampai when he found a white bag near a gate.

"He picked up the bag and found a baby wrapped in a pink towel and immediately called the police," he said in a statement on Monday.

He said the baby girl was pronounced dead by the Hospital Kuala Lumpur assistant medical officer.

"Our investigations lead us to believe the body was left at the scene at least 12 hours before it was discovered.

"Initial checks showed that the body did not have any sign of injury.

"The body has been sent to the Hospital Kuala Lumpur forensic unit for post-mortem," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for secretly burying or disposing of the dead body of a child.

He urged the public to contact the city police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the Wangsa Maju police hotline at 03-9289 9222 with any information on the case.
