Father arrested for allegedly hitting wife, daughter with plastic chair

BUTTERWORTH: A 44-year-old man in Tasek Gelugor here was arrested for allegedly hitting his wife and child using a plastic chair.

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said police received a report that the man has gone on a rampage by hitting his wife and child at their home with a white plastic chair on Thursday (May 13) at around 11.45am.

“The 51-year old victim, who is a Penang Islamic Affairs Department officer, said her husband was furious because their child did not close the door of their house.

“The victim claimed that her husband is a hot-tempered man and decided to come to the police station to lodge a report because she was worried about her personal and family’s safety, ” he said in a statement on Thursday (May 14).

ACP Noorzainy added that the victim had been married to her husband, a convert, for about 20 years.

“The victim was beaten by her husband using a chair and threatened to be killed while stopping her husband who was scolding their 19-year-old daughter.

“The victim’s husband often beat her and the children when there was a misunderstanding.

“The results of the recording of witnesses (son and daughter) of the victim found that she was often beaten by her husband but never lodged a police report.

“The victim and her husband have not spoken for about a year, but they still live in the same house.

“The complainant's husband was a former soldier and now works as a factory operator.

“The incident happened at a two-storey terrace house.

“The incident took place in the living room and in the upstairs room of the house, whereby the complainant lived upstairs while her husband lived downstairs, ” he said.

ACP Noorzainy also said the suspect was arrested at around 2.10pm on Wednesday (May 14).

“His urine was tested negative for drugs.
