Covid-19: Market in Bagan Ajam closed for three days after 43 test positive

BUTTERWORTH: The market in Taman Terbilang, Bagan Ajam has been closed for sanitisation after 43 people tested positive for Covid-19, says Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud.

He said the market will be closed for three days and reopen on Sunday (May 16).

Rozali said screening tests were done on 43 individuals comprising traders and workers and that all tested positive for the virus.

"We have ordered the market to close for sanitisation at noon.

"It will be reopened on Sunday and if the situation does not permit, we will issue notice prior to it," he said during a live session on Facebook on Thursday (May 13).

In a statement by the Health Ministry, the index case from the cluster was a 49-year-old Myanmar man who had tested positive on May 5 after showing symptoms on April 28. As of Wednesday (May 12), two new Covid-19 cases were reported on top of the earlier 43 cases.
