Pahang MB urges strict SOP compliance during Raya festivities

KUANTAN: Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has appealed to the public to follow Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) while celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

He said this year's Aidilfitri would be the second time it was celebrated in a situation where the world, the country and the state were still in the grip of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"In fact, the rate of transmission is still worrying. Among the causes is the growing neglect by some of the SOP set by the National Security Council and the Health Ministry.

"Believe me, no one wants this pandemic to continue in our community as well as our lives.

"What more during a moment when we should be rejoicing with family and celebrating this glorious day," Wan Rosdy said in his Aidilfitri message on Wednesday (May 12).

He asked the public to always wear face masks and practice physical distancing.

"Just as I and the state government are not tired of making this request, I appeal to the people to continue to persevere and abide by it, and to be confident that we will eventually succeed," he said.

Wan Rosdy also said the public should register for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme through the MySejahtera application and the Pahang Covid-19 Immunisation System (SICP) via

The Pahang Islamic Religious Department also issued its SOP for mosque and surau activities during Aidilfitri, while prohibiting house-to-house and cemetery visits.

Aidilfitri prayers would be allowed but must end by 9.30am while the congregation would be limited to 50 people only in mosques and 20 in surau.

The invitees would be determined by the mosque and surau administration with those 12 and below, and senior citizens 75 and over, not allowed to participate.

The department strongly recommended prayers to be performed at home involving members of the household only. It said the Aidilfitri sermon could be downloaded at

"Surprise inspections by SOP monitoring teams will be carried out at any time. If any mosque, surau or congregation fails to comply with SOP and contagion is confirmed due to Aidilfitri activities, action may be taken by the authorities.

"Failure to comply with SOP, control the congregation and the capacity as well as activities found to be performed outside the permitted period will result in permission being revoked," said the department.
