Man escapes in the nick of time as car catches fire

KOTA KINABALU: A 31-year-old man escaped in a nick of time when the vehicle he was driving started to catch fire in Labuan.

The man, who was driving along Jalan Tun Mustapha in Labuan at about 10.50am, had noticed that the lights on his dashboard started flickering.

He also saw that smoke was emitting from the front left tyre area.

Labuan OCPD Supt Ahmad Jawila said the man immediately pulled over and got out of the car.

“The vehicle caught fire in a matter of minutes, ” he said in a statement.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. No one was hurt in this incident.

During the incident, firecrackers kept in the car also started to go off, causing some to speculate that the hot weather caused the firecrackers to light up and burn the car down.

However, police do not believe that is the cause of fire.

“Firemen will be investigating the cause of the incident, ” Supt Ahmad said.
