KL CPO: I did not breach SOP, face mask was off for a TV interview

KUALA LUMPUR: City police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim (pic) has dismissed a claim that he violated Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) while being interviewed at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman on Sunday (May 9).

He said the video of the interview was uploaded on social media after he went on the ground to monitor SOP compliance.

"In the video, a TikTok account holder questioned why I did not wear a mask.

"He said 'Sekarang ini Dato ni tak pakai mask ... Dia suruh orang ikut SOP tapi mask dia mana? Jadi kita saman dia....' (Now it is Datuk who is not wearing a mask, he urges people to comply with SOP but where is his own mask? So he should be compounded')," he said in a statement on Monday (May 10).

Comm Azmi said he only took off his mask just before the interview and put it back on once the interview was over.

"The interview was conducted live for a television station's news slot. Wearing the face mask might have distorted the message I wanted to convey as the area was noisy," he added.

Comm Azmi urged those with inquiries to call the KL police hotline at 03-21159999 or contact the nearest police station.
