Compiled by XIAO TONG, C. ARUNO and R. ARAVINTHANMALAYSIAN singer Fish Leong has given her first public performance since breaking up with her boyfriend in February, Sin Chew Daily reported.
During the appearance at a tech expo in Taiwan, Leong recited instead of singing Unfortunately Not You.
Released in 2005, it is one of Leong’s best known songs. It tells the sad tale of two lovers who are not able to be together.
Her recital surprised the audience.
But film producer and industry veteran Chiu Li-Kwan, who was present, praised Leong’s performance, saying that it was “surprisingly better than sung”.
Leong later said the song had a different feel after she performed it for so many years.
“Though the lyrics remain unchanged, I never imagined that our perception of it could change. It feels as if we are journeying through different scenarios, ” she said.
Leong, 42, from Negri Sembilan, was reported to have split with Taiwanese entrepreneur Darwin Lin, 56, after Valentine’s Day.
News of the break-up emerged just about four months after the relationship came to light.
Her nine-year marriage to a Taiwanese businessman ended in December 2019.
