Saarani will not contest Larut in GE15 but Umno will field candidate

IPOH: Datuk Saarani Mohamad says he will not contest the Larut parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election but there will be an Umno candidate fielded.

"Umno will contest there no matter what. I have said that many times.

"I am from Lenggong. Priority will be given to a local candidate.

"The candidate will be someone recommended and decided by the division," he said after witnessing an agreement signing between Perak State Development Corporation chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak and Professional Latex Sdn Bhd executive director Terence Lim Sin Kooi at his office here on Wednesday (May 5).

An online portal had reported that Umno was considering fielding a strong candidate to contest the Larut parliamentary seat against incumbent MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who is from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

Among the names supposedly being considered was Saarani's, who is also Perak Umno chairman.

On the agreement, Saarani said it involves the construction of a glove factory on 18.3ha of land at the Bemban II industrial site in Batu Gajah.

He said the investment was worth about RM800mil, involving five phases over 10 years.

"The first phase is expected to start between 2023 and 2024 involving RM160mil.

"When completed, the factory will have 80 production lines, manufacturing 24 billion gloves annually," he said.

"The factory will create 4,000 jobs," he added.
