Thieves down in the dumps after cops bust rubbish container racket

SERDANG: A gang that stole rubbish disposal containers and modified them before renting them out has been busted by the police.

The gang, dubbed Gang Roro, was nabbed in a raid on April 28 at an oil palm plantation in Sungai Tangkas, Kajang.

"Five suspects were arrested. The main suspect had 20 previous offences and recently completed his Prevention of Crime Act (Poca) sentence in August," acting Serdang police chief Supt Mohd Rusdi Daud said on Tuesday (May 4).

"One of the suspects owns a company that rents out these disposal containers.

"Investigations showed that the gang would steal containers at night and modify them at the plantation to remove any identifying markings before renting them out for profit," he added.

A total of 14 containers were seized during the raid, along with other tools used by the group. The value of each container was estimated to be around RM5,000 to RM6,000.

"With these arrests, at least 14 cases within the Serdang and Klang Valley area have been solved," Supt Mohd Rusdi said.
