Squid jigging event to go on in Terengganu

Squid jigging is done only at night. The best time to do this is during full moon and high tide.

KUALA NERUS: Squid jigging, a popular activity that has become an annual event in Terengganu, will continue this year but in strict compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Terengganu tourism, culture and digital technology committee chairman Ariffin Deraman said several programmes would be held to promote the event after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“Our main focus now is to choose the appropriate method so that permission for interstate travel can be given to squid jigging enthusiasts from outside Terengganu, especially those who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 or have tested negative before coming here, ” he said.

In another development, Ariffin said the Raya Oil Lamp competition will also be held this year and details on the inter-district competition would be announced later. — Bernama
