PETALING JAYA: Police here have seized a stolen car after arresting a man who tried to evade a police check.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the incident occurred at around 8.50pm on Saturday (May 1).
"Police on crime prevention rounds came across a man acting suspiciously in a car. They tried to stop him but he sped off and got on the Federal Highway heading towards Shah Alam," he said in a statement on Sunday (May 2).
He said police chased the vehicle and managed to stop it along Jalan PJS 10/7C, Sungai Way with the assistance of two police patrol cars.
"When the police tried to arrest the suspect, he struggled in an attempt to break free. Another suspect who was with him fled the scene," said ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin.
"We checked the vehicle and found a 70cm-long machete," he said, adding that further checks revealed the car was reported stolen in Puchong.
ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said the 27-year-old suspect had five records for gang robbery, giving false information to a public servant, voluntarily causing grievous hurt and voluntarily causing hurt while committing a robbery.
"We have remanded him for four days to help with further investigations and are tracking down the suspect still at large," he said.
In an unrelated matter, he said four men aged between 31 and 43 were arrested following an operation at the Kota Damansara flats on Saturday.
"We checked the flat at around 7.14pm and arrested the men and found 57.85g heroin and 31g syabu. The drug seizure was worth at least RM5,124," he said.
He added the four suspects have been involved in drug distribution for at least three years while one suspect was a drug addict for over nine years.
He said the suspects have been remanded for seven days to help with investigations.
