Two held over firearms violation

ALOR GAJAH: Two security officers at the Hospital Alor Gajah have been detained for not storing their firearms in a gazetted storage area.

OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said the two men, aged 30 and 34, were held following a check by officers from the firearms licensing division of the state police at 5pm on Wednesday.

“The two had violated the guidelines of their firearms permit, ” he said.

Supt Arshad said police also confiscated three pump guns, a van and 30 ammunition pellets.

He said both men would be investigated under Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act.

The offence carries a jail term of up to seven years, a maximum fine of RM10,000, or both, if convicted.
