MACC probe power abuse in awarding of Lenggeng timber concession to Negri Sembilan Foundation

SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating allegations of malpractice and abuse of power over the awarding of a timber concession in Lenggeng to the Negri Sembilan Foundation (YNS).

State MACC chief Mohamad Zakkuan Talib said an investigation paper was opened following

reports received by the commission that proper procedures were not followed in the awarding of the logging concession.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the timber concession given to YNS started in

2014 with 2,500ha allocated to it every year, ” said Mohamad Zakkuan.

He added in a statement on Thursday (April 22) that the MACC is looknig at all concessions awarded to the foundation since 2014

Mohamad Zakkuan told all parties to stop speculating or spreading unsubstantiated news

on the matter as investigations were ongoing.

Prior to this, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the MACC was more than welcome to probe claims of power abuse on the awarding of a timber concession to YNS in Lenggeng.

He said the state government will cooperate with the MACC on the matter.

Aminuddin said as far as the state government was concerned, it had followed all procedures in the matter.

Seremban Umno Youth chief Zool Amali Hussain had urged the state government to stop logging activities in Lenggeng, saying this was detrimental to the ecosystem and could affect water catchment areas.

Claims were also made by other parties on social media that the exercise did not follow stipulated procedures.
